SP Jail Paramjit Singh said that Manjit Singh, a resident of local Sundernagar locality, complained that he was feeling unwell after which he was given first aid.
Later he was sent to local civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, he said.
Manjit Singh relatives and local residents staged a dharna outside the hospital for more than four hours. The protesters were pacified after DSP Mohinder Singh intervened and assured to investigate the case.
Victim's mother Giano alleged that his son was booked under NDPS act about 20 days ago. She alleged that a police officer demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh for not booking him under NDPS act.
