Union govt team takes stock of flood affected areas in J-K

A Central team headed by Joint Secretary in Union Ministry for Home Affairs Gopal Anand today visited Anantnag and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir to take stock of the damages to infrastructure due to recent floods.
Anand was accompanied by state Revenue Secretary Vinod Koul, an official spokesman said.
District Development Commissioner Pulwama Sajad Ahmad Khan gave detailed presentation about the damages and relief and rehabilitation process in the district, he said.
The district officers also provided the details of damage that their respective departments have incurred during the floods.
Anand was informed that the Roads and Buildings department has made 41 bridges functional which were severely damaged in the floods.
He was also told that 161 water supply schemes were damaged in the floods out of which 159 have been restored.
In education sector, 157 school buildings have got damaged including 12 fully damaged buildings.
Additional District Development Commissioner Anantnag Hashmatullah informed the visiting team that 174 villages out of the 394 villages in the district were inundated, while as 220 were partially affected.
The official said 40,000 families were affected in the floods, 1902 Pucca houses damaged fully while as 18614 Pucca houses suffered partial damages.
The team was informed that 10 people lost their lives in the district and Rs 15.47 Lakh was released as exgratia in favour of the next of kin.
