The yarns, made of bamboo textile fibre having matured in the forest for four years, were beautifully stitched to make men's and women's wear with metallic accessories as the models walked on the ramp to the accompaniment of music.
"Our emphasis is on clothing/garments which are made entirely from materials that do not contribute to the depletion of the planet's resources, which in turn allows for resources to be available for future generations to fulfil their needs," reputed fashion expert and the brain behind the show Alok Singh said.
The garments, which included tunic pants, palazzo pants, long skirts and head gears, comprised of organic cotton yarns bleached naturally and dried in direct sunlight or moonlight.
"This is a unique show in the city with the yarn made from bio-degradable natural resources or from recycled materials or a combination," designer Abhisek Dutta, one of the top fashion designers present in the evening, said.
The unique green show was organised by ESEDS School of Design, having partnered with EFF London, Singh told PTI.
The apparel industry now consumes around twice as much fibre causing a major impact environmentally, having a worth over 3 trillion dollars and there is a predicted growth of 50 per cent in the next 10 years, Singh said quoting a global fashion survey.
