Two children drowned while taking bath in a pit full of water in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, police said Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday when three children -- Saddam (8), Raju (9) and Tabrej (10) -- were taking bath and slipped into the deep water at Chaitupurwa village in Dargah Sharif area, they said.

While Tabrez and Saddam drowned, Raju swimmed to safety, they added.

The pit was dug by locals and was filled with water after heavy rains.
