UP acts tough against sugar mills delaying farmer dues

Taking strong action against sugar mills not clearing farmer dues on time, Uttar Pradesh government has issued recovery certificates against four private mills.
"RC (recovery certificate) has been issued against four erring sugar mills namely Modinagar (Ghaziabad district), Malakpur (Bagpat), Mavana (Meerut) and Titabi (Muzaffarnagar)," said Principal Secretary, Sugar Industry & Cane Development, Rahul Bhatnagar said today.
Bhatnagar said 98.59 per cent dues of the crushing season 2012-2013 have been cleared while Rs 317.71 crore was still outstanding following which this latest action has been taken.
The principal secretary said that of the crushing season 2013-2014, Rs 3,227.84 has been paid to farmers. This is 35.85 per cent of the total dues and sugar mills have been asked to make the remaining payments soon, he added.
