UP Governor gives assent to three names for nominated MLCs

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today gave his assent to three names sent by Samajwadi Party for appointment as Members of Legislative Council in the category of nominated members.
"The Governor has given his assent to the names of Rajpal Kashyap, Sanjay Lathar and Arvind Singh for appointment as MLCs. The names were sent to the Governor on May 25," a release issued by Raj Bhavan said.
Singh was accommodated in the Legislative Council by the ruling Samajwadi Party after it dropped his name from the party list of Rajya Sabha candidates replacing him by Surendra Nagar.
The Governor had earlier returned the name of Kashyap citing criminal cases against him and had raised queries from the state government.

Kashyap, considered to be close to SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, was the president of Lucknow University Students' Union and has been active in the party since the beginning of his political career.
