Governor B L Joshi had yesterday given assent to the UP Public Service (Reservation for SC ST and OBC) Amendment Ordinance 2012 which quashed provisions of reservation in promotions for SC/ST officers and employees.
As the assembly session was not in progress, the state government had on May 4 decided to bring an ordinance for repealing the existing rule related to reservation in promotions.
The government would now table the ordinance in the assembly, whose session is expected later this month.
The Supreme Court in its order last month upheld the High Court order to scrap quota in promotions.
The legal battle on the issue had started soon after the Mayawati government took charge in 2007. The BSP government had decided to implement the quota for SC/ST in recruitment as well as in promotions.
