UP man arrested for murder of couple in Thane

A 28-year-old man has been arrested from Sandila in Hardoi district in connection with the murder of a couple here last week, police said.
Joint commissioner of police Ashutosh Dumbre said a team of city police arrested Shafique Shamsuddin Mansuri from UP two days ago.
According to the police, Sufia Mansuri, who was known to Shafique, fell in love with his friend Vijayshankar Yadav. Sufia married Yadav, changed her name to Priya Yadav, and the couple left the village Sandila and settled down here.
According to the police, Sufia's family blamed Shafique Mansuri for her elopement.
On September 12, Mansuri arrived here and stayed at Yadav's place in Shil-Daigahr area. On the same night, he allegedly slit their throats and then fled to his hometown.

Police are probing if it was a case of honour killing.
Sufia alias Priya was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.
A local court today remanded the accused in the police custody for a week and further probe is on.
