The Uttar Pradesh Police has set up a coordination cell in compliance with the Union home ministry advisory to check cybercrime.
The state cybercrime coordination cell will be led by an inspector general of the special task force (STF), said Praveen Kumar, deputy inspector general (law and order).
The district-level cybercells will be constituted under the ASP (crime) or deputy superintendent of police (crime), Kumar told media persons here.
The misuse of social media for spreading communal frenzy, insulting individuals, harassing and blackmailing women and posting vulgar videos and other such criminal acts have often posed serious law-and-order problems, the DIG added.
