A comprehensive action plan will be drawn up to develop the main tourist places in Garhmukteshwar as part of the Uttar Pradesh government's efforts to promote tourism in the state.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Shri Rajive Kumar, at a meeting here to discuss how the place can be promoted as a tourist destination, laid emphasis on developing the area where fairs are held, keeping in view its religious and tourism importance.
Garhmukteshwar, situated on the NH 24 that joins Delhi with Lucknow, is in Hapur district and is a revered centre of pilgrimage for Hindus and is also a spiritual tourism destination that attracts both domestic and foreign tourists.
Kumar said there was need to declare the 'mela' area as a green belt and directed the authorities to prepare an action plan towards that end, an official release said.
He added that there should be sufficient parking arrangements in the 'mela' area and the Ganga ghat should be properly maintained.
Principal Secretary (Tourism) Avnish Awasthi, the Hapur district magistrate and other senior officers were present at the meeting, the release added.
