Uttar Pradesh unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to go on a one-day token strike on May 8 to press their demand for providing safety to the practising doctors by the state government.
Addressing a press conference convened here in IMA Bhawan at Raj Nagar the state president Doctor Sharad Kumar Aggarwal said that practising doctors in the state are most vulnerable and incidents of attacks on doctors by relatives of patients are on rise.
He quoted the incident of assault on Dr. Rohit Gupta of Allahabad where culprits were booked by police under mild sections of IPC due to which they were easily bailed out.
A memorandum has also been sent addressed to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav by the IMA.
In their memorandum the IMA has demanded that Medical Protection Act should be effectively implemented in UP to ensure the safety and security of doctors.
Aggarwal further demanded that exploitation of doctors in the name of procuring various licenses and CMO registration should be stopped and all FIRs registered against doctors in various districts must be expunged.
Honorary state secretary of IMA, Dr. Anand Prakash said that incidents of attack on doctors and staff on duty are common as the patient's relatives lose their temper as soon when they see the medical bill.
