After announcing introduction of Marathi foundation course at Urdu medium schools from class VIII to class X, the state minorities affairs minister Eknath Khadse today said the schools which don't teach the language would be derecognised.
"I have specific information that there are some Urdu medium schools which do not teach Marathi. This cannot be allowed. If the language, which is our mother-tongue, is not taught in schools, children studying in such schools would never be able to get good marks in competitive exams like MPSC and UPSC as well as in medical and engineering courses," Khadse told PTI.
"We will be sending notices to such schools. If they fail to pay heed, we will not hesitate to derecognise them. We want children studying in these schools to become IAS officers and top cops," he added.
The senior minister had said last week that syllabus of the Marathi foundation course has been designed to provide children with skill development and modern education.
He had also said that the government will issue notices to 2,472 minority educational institutions which had not followed guidelines and misused their minority status to avoid admitting general category students.
There are 1,060 religious minority institutes and 1,412 linguistic minority institutes in Maharashtra.
