'Urgent need' to avoid deterioration in CAR: UN chief

UN chief Ban Ki-moon today said it was urgent to avoid any further deterioration of the situation in the violence-wracked Central African Republic, where French troops have been deployed to restore order.
Ban was speaking at the end of a France-Africa summit in Paris. The French troops have been deployed to back up an African force already in the country.
