US based telecom services company MBC has started trial of wireless broadband service in Halifax town of Virginia state using technology of Indian telecom gear maker Vihaan Networks Ltd.
VNL is providing solar powered Wi-Fi equipment for wireless broadband services in conjunction with internet service provider Gamewood Technologies Group on MBC network.
"Gamewood Technology Group is pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Town and County of Halifax, MBC and VNL to bring these wireless services to the area. We look forward to building on this partnership," Gamewood's Chief Information Officer Ed Wilborne said in a statement.
The wireless system is connected to MBC's fiber optic transport network that provides dedicated connectivity from the solar powered base station to Gamewood's Internet Network.
"We believe a solar-powered wireless broadband platform can be a benefit to continue expansion of low-cost wireless broadband services in hard to reach, rural areas of Southern Virginia," MBC President & CEO Tad Deriso said.
MBC has over 2,500 kilometres of optic fibre network which is used for providing broadband service in rural area.
India also is working on wi-fi networks in rural area under the National Optic Fibre Network which is expected to get completed in 2014-15.
"We are delighted to partner with MBC and Gamewood to deliver wireless broadband access in the Town of Halifax. This historic and scenic town is such a contrast to the harsh topography of remote areas of Asia, Africa and Latin America, where VNL has deployed GSM and broadband networks," VNL Founder Chairman and CEO Rajiv Mehrotra said.
