US expresses concern over sectarian violence in Pakistan

The US today expressed concern over continuing sectarian violence in Pakistan while condoling the victims of the deadly suicide attacks on a church in Peshawar city.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of Sunday's heinous attack on a church in Peshawar. We wish those who were injured a full and speedy recovery," State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said.
The death toll from yesterday's twin suicide bombings on the church rose to 81 today, in the deadliest ever attack on the country's Christian minority.
"The US joins Pakistani and world leaders in condemning this brutality. We support Pakistan's efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice," Psaki said in a statement.

The US, she said, remains concerned about "continuing sectarian violence" in Pakistan that has brought heartache to Sunnis, Shias, Christians, and members of other minority communities across the country.
"Extremist violence against innocent Pakistani men, women, and children of any faith is an assault on universal human values," she said in response to a question.
