Gareyev, with an ELO rating of 2605, is the Guinness record holder for the World Blindfold simul chess.
Grand Master Ivan Rozum of Russia, ELO 2595 is the second seed, while experienced GM Sergei Tiviakov of The Netherlands (ELO rating 2584) is the third seed, said a press note.
Tiviakov had won the open title in the Commonwealth Chess Championships held here in 2012.
The tournament, organised by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association, carries a total prize money of Rs 11 lakh with the winner set to receive Rs two lakh.
