The US Senate has approved USD 225 million to replenish Israel's missile defence system, and House approval is expected before lawmakers begin a summer break.
The money will go to restocking Israel's Iron Dome defence, which has been credited with shooting down dozens of incoming rockets fired by Hamas during a three-week war.
The vote came one day after the Pentagon announced ammunition deliveries to the Jewish state, and as an announced 72-hour cease-fire collapsed in the Middle East.
Efforts in the Senate to approve the money for Iron Dome stalled last night after Republican Sen Tom Coburn objected that it lacked cuts elsewhere in the budget to prevent deficits from rising.
