National carrier Air India is the only carrier which operates to the US from Hyderabad via Delhi, and its passengers have to undergo security check at both the airports perior to flying to the US.
If the US DOT team clears the security mechanism at the Hyderabad airport, passengers will not have to undergo a second security check at the Delhi Airport, the sources said.
"Government has given its approval to the US Department of Transportation to send its team for a safety audit of the Hyderabad Airport," official sources told PTI here.
Air India had launched its Hyderabad-Delhi-Chicago flight in 2010. And since that time, the passengers have to undergo such a rigrous exercise.
"Due to security issues, the passengers of this flight are first de-planed at the Delhi Airport and then they go for a security check and then board the plane again for flying to the US, which is very inconvenient, especially for eldely passengers," the sources said.
