State BJP chief Bishan Singh Chufal asked the party's district units to stage effigy burning programmes in their respective areas tomorrow to protest the move.
The state government withdrew the relief in VAT on petrol price yesterday.
The relief had been announced by the state government early last month ahead of the October 10 Tehri Lok Sabha by-poll in which Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna's son Saket was in the fray but finally lost, the BJP members said.
However, defending the move, the Chief Minister claimed that even after withdrawal of relief in VAT on petrol price, its cost in Uttarakhand was lower in comparison to other states.
