Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hosted several girls and women at their residences here who turned up to tie 'rakhi' to the two leaders.
Both Naidu and Modi shared pictures of women tying the sacred thread on their wrists.
The Vice President said 'Raksha Bandan' is a symbol of care and protection, and a celebration of solidarity, unity and humanism.
He was addressing more than 100 schoolchildren from various schools in Delhi who came to his residence to tie 'rakhi'.
In his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' radio address, the prime minister this morning said there are innumerable accounts of this sacred thread, binding together people of distant lands and different religions.
