The design, build and operate contract was secured from Societe Nationale D'exploitation Et De Distribution Des Eaux of Tunisia, funded by KFW Germany towards engineering, supply and construction of a 50 MLD sea water desalination plant expandable up to 100 MLD, using sea water reverse osmosis with energy recovery system, it said in a release.

Rajiv Mittal, managing director and group chief executive officer, VA Tech Wabag, said the plant when completed, will play a significant role in meeting the water demand for Tunisia.

The project is scheduled to be completed within 27 months, followed by a 12 month operations and maintenance period, the release said.

The company Monday had reported a 24.29 per cent fall in consolidated net profit to Rs 28.49 crore in the September quarter, against Rs 37.63 crore posted in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
