Water treatment firm VA Tech Wabag Tuesday said it has bagged a Rs 600-crore order in Tunisia for engineering, supply and construction of a sea water desalination plant of 50 MLD (millions of litres per day) capacity.
The design, build and operate contract was secured from Societe Nationale D'exploitation Et De Distribution Des Eaux of Tunisia, funded by KFW Germany towards engineering, supply and construction of a 50 MLD sea water desalination plant expandable up to 100 MLD, using sea water reverse osmosis with energy recovery system, it said in a release.
It also includes supply and installation of systems for sea water intake and brine discharge, execution of a treated water reservoir along with transfer pumping station, execution of HV/MV substation, roads and utility service works.
Rajiv Mittal, managing director and group chief executive officer, VA Tech Wabag, said the plant when completed, will play a significant role in meeting the water demand for Tunisia.
The project is scheduled to be completed within 27 months, followed by a 12 month operations and maintenance period, the release said.
The company Monday had reported a 24.29 per cent fall in consolidated net profit to Rs 28.49 crore in the September quarter, against Rs 37.63 crore posted in the corresponding quarter last fiscal.
