Valuables worth Rs 85 lakh burgled from businessman's house

Robbers broke into the bungalow of a businessman, who is a relative of Uttar Pradesh MLA Vijay Mishra, when he was away in Allahabad for the Kumbh Mela, and looted gold and other valuables worth Rs 85 lakh, police said today. The Borivali police said the housebreaking occurred in the one-storeyed Matruchaya bungalow in Gorai-2 in suburban Borivali, owned by Vijay's relative Shivmani Mishra. The accused decamped with 1 kg of silver, 1.25 kg of gold, Rs 6 lakh cash and a licensed revolver. The stolen amount is collectively worth nearly Rs 85 lakh. Mishra, who owns a petrol pump in Mumbai had left the city to attend a marriage as well as the Kumbh Mela on January 28 at his native place, along with his wife, son and daughter-in-law. "There was no watchman or security guard or caretaker at the bungalow. There is no CCTV surveillance in or around the area. The burglars broke the locker on the first floor bedroom and took all the valuables," a police official said. Mishra returned home around 2 am today with his family and found his bungalow's main door opened. He reported the matter to police after he saw gold, cash and other valuables missing.
