Vardhan exhorts scientists to think "out of box"

Union minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Harsh Vardhan has exhorted the scientists to think "out of box" and be pro-active in their approach so that the poor and needy enjoy the benefits of their research.
The Union minister who is on a two day visit to Institute of Himalayan Bio-resource Technology, CSIR laboratory said that they (scientists) must come forward with new projects and assured all help to them in their endeavour.
Vardhan said that there was need to co-relate the research with efforts being made by other scientists to avoid duplicity and wastage of resources and assured all help from Department of Science and Technology in their efforts to protect the environment and alleviate poverty.
He claimed that since Modi government came to power, there has been a renewed interest in India and now the problem of brain drain has been halted, instead of it there was brain gain and claimed that more than 250 scientists have returned to India leaving their lucrative jobs abroad.
Vardhan said recently India was adjudged second amongst the world nations in the matter of fundamental research and emphasised the present government was keen that the research was transferred from Laboratories to field and people.
The Union minister said Rs 10000 crore have been set apart to encourage new projects under start up scheme and encouraging results have started coming.
He said that research should not be only for publication of papers but to benefit the people, adding that India did not lack talent and scientific bent of mindbut what is needed is push in the right direction.
