Vardhan launches Jan Dhan Yojana in Delhi

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today launched "Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana," Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mega scheme, and urged Delhiites to participate in this scheme.
Addressing a gathering at Delhi Secretariat, Vardhan said that people are very excited about 'Jan Dhan Yojana'.
"People are very excited about this scheme which will benefit crores of people across the country. This excitment can be compared to when Modi Ji became Prime Minister. I urge people, who have bank accounts, to encourage those who dont have have, to open their accounts under Jan Dhan Yojana," Vardhan said.
Vardhan said that the scheme will prove very helpful for poor people, who used to fear entering banks.
"There are several people in India who don't have even basic facilities. After 67 years, 350 million people are under proverty line and 37 per cent people are illiterate. In this situation, such scheme will be very useful for poor people," he said.
He said, "We have to connect poor people, who don't have bank accounts, with this scheme."
Lt Governor Najeeb Jung said that this is a revolutionary step by the government, adding that in past several years, several schemes were introduced to help poor people, but they could not be effectively run.
"In last several years, many schemes were introduced to help poor people, but, these schemes could not run effectively. It is the responsibility of banks which have to effectively participate in Jan Dhan Yojana," Jung said.
