A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan seeking a court monitored CBI probe into the police firing during the anti-sterlite protests at Tuticorin on May 22 and 23.
When the plea came up, a division bench, comprising Justice R. Subbaiah and Justice C Saravanan, adjourned it to June 25.
Thirumavalavan alleged that the state police without following any procedures opened fire at the protesters killing 13.
A fair and free investigation cannot be expected by the state police and the authorities, he said and sought a court-monitored CBI probe.
