K Anandan and fellow veterinarian S Ramasubramanian were returning to Rajapalayam by the two-wheeler when the lorry coming in the opposite direction rammed their vehicle and sped away late last night.
Anandan died on the spot and Ramasubramanian, who was seriously injured, had been admitted to Srivilliputtur Government Hospital.
Based on a complaint by the injured, police registered a case and were searching for the lorry.
