Ganesh, of the yesteryear Shankar-Ganesh fame, had suffered injuries to his right eye besides his hands when some explosive subtance received along with mail exploded in 1986.
Though he had underwent an eye surgery then where the 'cataractous lens' was removed, an artifical lens was not placed as there was no support to keep it, Dr Amar Agarwal, who had recently operated on Ganesh, told reporters.
"Since there was scarring in his cornea, a lens could not be fixed," he said.
The technique allowed the patients see from the next day and the healing process was faster, Agarwal added.
Shankar-Ganesh had scored music in a number of South Indian films.
