Senior VHP leader S Vedantham today decried the opposition from political parties in Tamil Nadu to 'Sanskrit Week' celebrations proposed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in its schools across the country next month.

"It is cheap politics that is behind the opposition to an ancient Indian language which is indeed the divine language," he told reporters here replying to a question.

Talking after offering worship at the famous Goddess Kamakshi Amman temple here, he pointed to chanting of mantras in Sanskrit at an ongoing "homam" and said it was a divine language.
