Rick says its important that actors show trust and respect to the technicians for the job they are hired for and the "Kahaani" actress had immense faith in him.
"Vidya is a very non interfering person when it comes to clothes. For her films, she lets the director and the designer decide what her look will be and as long as the director is happy and the clothes fit her perfect and are according to the character she is happy," says Rick.
"Begum Jaan" a Hindi adaptation of Srijit Mukherji's Bengali film "Rajkaahini", stars Vidya in the lead, as brothel's madam in Punjab during India's Partition in 1947.
Rick is thankful to Vidya and Srijit for being supportive.
"Director Srijit was specific about few things about Vidya's look but apart from that he did give me a free hand to design whatever and however I wanted to do it," he says.
"Vidya is a lot of fun to work with. The first time she saw the clothes she wore them, came out and said to me 'Aadab Miya' and started talking as Begum Jaan."
"To be very honest this was one of the toughest films I have worked on both physically and mentally. The brief was that Vidya and all the other characters in the film need to look believable. Also the clothes need to look from the time period that we are showcasing in the film and that was challenging," he says.
Rick had just 24 days to do research on the period for his clothes. He says as it was his first period film, he did not want to leave any stone unturned.
The film is set to release on April 14.
