The Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday appointed senior IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh as the Acting Director General of Police (DGP) of the poll-bound state.
Current DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla has proceeded on six weeks' leave on account of a heart-related ailment, official sources said.
Hence the government, with the approval of the Election Commission, appointed Singh as acting DGP till further orders, sources added.
Singh, a 1984-batch officer, will continue to hold his existing post as chairman of the MP Police Housing Corporation.
Madhya Pradesh will go to the polls on November 28.
