Village Bhati Mines in South Delhi will be developed as a model village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to Members of Parliament to adopt villages and equip them with better infrastructure.
The initiative was taken taken by South Delhi MP, Ramesh Bidhuri who had approached Delhi Chief Secretary D M Spolia following which the latter conducted the socio economic survey of Bhati Mines through District Magistrate (South).
"The socio-economic profile of the village Bhati shows that it lies on the last leg of main Chhatarpur Road, flanked by Delhi-Haryana Border in South sharing boundary with village Asola on its right and Fatehpur Beri and Dera Mandi on the left.
"On a flipside, this is also an indication of the fact that not much commercial activity takes place in the area and that it is under-developed despite lying in south Delhi area," said Spolia.
Spolia said that according to revenue record, the area of the village is 18,403 Bigha and 03 Biswa out of which 5022 Bigha 10 Biswa is for the purpose of cultivation.
"In 1996, 11,101 Bigha 19 Biswa of the Gram Sabha land was notified under ridge in the Delhi Gazette. Thus, a large part of the village rests with the forest department. The revenue section of Bhati has three sub-parts: Bhati Kalan, Bhati Khurd and Sanjay Colony.
"Another part is Har Swarup Colony which is dominated primarily by Gujjar community people. They do not own agricultural land (with a very few exceptions). Almost all households have livestock which serves as the lifeline of the economy of the village," Spolia said.
Spolia said that the socio economic survey proposes solutions aiming at making Bhati a self-sustaining autonomous and an ideal village of Mahatma Gandhi's imagination.
"The village will get a boost to set its economy rolling and the people will find a more meaningful existence. This study is only the first baby step towards making Bhati a model village," he said.
