Village pradhan assaulted by policemen in UP

The pradhan of Mant Raja village here was allegedly harassed and assaulted by two policemen, prompting the department to take action against them.
The village pradhan, Ashraf, had yesterday gone to Tehsil headquarters here to register a complaint with authorities against unauthorised encroachment of Gram Samaj land by mafia, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Singh said quoting a complaint by pradhan's brother Mueed Ahemad.
The pradhan flew into a rage when the authorities paid no heed to his compaint and shouted at them, following which Sub-inspector Radhey Lal and SHO Udai Pratap assaulted him in front of revenue officials, Ahemad alleged.
The pradhan fell unconcious and was rushed to the district hospital, he said.
The sub-inspector has been suspended and the SHO transferred to district police lines, the SSP said.
"Departmental probe has also been ordered into the matter," Singh said.
