The villagers, sources said, held a meeting with the headmaster of the local school and decided to fete Maya S Kharate who delivered baby girls a week ago.

They were inspired by `Beti Bachao' (save girl-child) campaign of the government, the felicitation was organised yesterday as a part of the campaign.

Three other women who recently gave birth to girls were also felicitated.

The villagers also decided to deposit Rs 3,000 each in the bank in the names of Kharate's new-born daughters who would redeem them upon completion of 18 years.
