Vaughn, 44, known for his comic roles in movies 'Wedding Crashers' and 'The Break-Up', can be seen as a villain on the crime drama series, reported the Deadline.
Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are the other actors rumoured to play the lead roles on the show.
Series creator Nic Pizzolatto recently said there would be four main characters in the second season, with at least one of them being female. "There is a strong (lead) female character. But I wouldn't say it is female-led or anything like that," he said.
