The 38-year-old actor, who played Pete Campbell in the AMC drama, will play an important role in the show directed by Andreas Prochaska, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series is inspired by the best-selling novel by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim about the submarine war of the 1940s, as well as by Wolfgang Petersen's Oscar-nominated film adaptation from 1981 of the same name.
The script has been penned by Tony Saint and Johannes W Betz.
The ensemble cast also includes Lizzy Caplan, August Wittgenstein, Rainer Bock and Robert Stadlober.
Shooting for the series has already begun in Prague.
