An FIR has been filed against the president of Vindhya Panda Samaj Dharmendra Pandey, Secretary Ashvini Misra and two others, they said.
Out of Rs 14,63,693 counted on the instructions of the District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Singh, about Rs 77,000 were found missing on Wednesday, police said.
However, under pressure from naib tehsildar Umesh Chandra, it was returned in installments the same night, police said.
The Panda Samaj later held a meeting and opposed the move to lodge an FIR in this connection.
