Violence in Bhadrak over post on Lord Ram in social media

Violence erupted in Bhadrak town and its neighbouring areas today over alleged offensive remarks in social media on Lord Ram prompting clamping of prohibitory orders in the area.
Two persons have been arrested for the post on social media, police said.
Soon after the alleged remarks and photo went viral in the social media, angry people including activists of some outfits came out on the streets and launched road blockade by burning tyres and vandalised shops.
The protesters also staged a demonstration near Bhadrak town police station demanding immediate arrest of those involved in posting "objectionable" remarks in social media, the police said.

"In order to bring the situation under control, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr PC were imposed in the town and police personnel in strength were deployed," Inspector General of Police Ghanshyam Upadhyay said.
The situation was now under control, he said adding strict vigil was being maintained across the town to prevent any untoward incident.

Armed police have been deployed in sensitive areas and the town wore a deserted look as shopkeepers and business establishments downed their shutters.
Superintendent of Police Dilip Das said patrolling was undertaken by police force in the town as a precautionary measure.
A complaint was lodged by some people in Bhadrak town police station after the alleged offensive comments appeared in social media, the police said.
