More than 150 sanitary workers were involved in the cleaning of the premises and they had collected 210 gunny bags full of garbage, zoo officials said.
Chocolate and biscuit wrappers, ice cream sticks, plastic bags, aluminium foils, broken bangles, single and damaged footwear, hair-pins, hair bands, kerchiefs, napkins, papers, empty water bottles, glass bottles, tea cups, sugarcane bagasse, steel pieces, etc, were found among the garbage, they said.
During the three days of Pongal festival since January 15, a total of 1,08,186 persons visited the 1,490 acre campus, which houses the largest zoo in the country.
