A criminal wanted in a murder case, with a reward of Rs 1.5 lakh on his head, was arrested in Okhla, the police said today.
The accused, 35-year-old Ajay Dabas, was wanted in connection with the killing of a cable operator Devender Rathi in Begumpur last year, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Romil Baaniya.
On July 5, the police received information about Dabas coming near Okhla Subzi Mandi to meet his associate, he added.
A trap was laid near Okhla Subzi Mandi and he was seen riding a motorcycle. When the police team asked him to surrender, he whipped out a pistol but was overpowered.
A country-made pistol and five live cartridges were seized from him.
In 2009, he was involved in executing four killings in a single day in Bahadurgarh, Haryana and was arrested and awarded capital punishment that was later converted to life sentence, the police said.
In 2015, he came out on parole to attend his brother's wedding but later jumped the parole.
In 2016, he along with his associates killed Rathi.
The victim was his business partner earlier but after Dabas was arrested for murder cases in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, he stopped giving Dabas his share and took over the entire business.
Dabas even tried to kill Rathi's brother-in-law Manjeet but he survived. To evade arrest, Dabas was not using any mobile phone and was not even in touch with his family.
