Water levels in many reservoirs in Nashik district rise

Water levels in 16 out of total 24 reservoirs in Nashik district of Maharashtra have gone up thanks to incessant rains in the area since July 6.

However, remaining eight water reservoirs are still dry due to deficit rains in their catchment areas so far.

In good news for citizens of Nashik, the water stock in the Gangapur dam has gone up from 13 per cent to 40 per cent, a district administration official said Wednesday.

Other reservoirs like Kashyapi, Gautami and Alandi are also filled up to 34 per cent, he said.

Out of total 24 reservoirs in the north Maharashtra district, seven are major and 17 are of medium capacity.

In the 16 reservoirs, the water stock has gone up to 18 per cent, according to the official.

The official said that 15 talukas in Nashik district have received cumulative rainfall of 4767.2 mm between June 1 and July 10 in comparison to the previous year's 3706 mm.

Igatpuri has recorded ther maximum rainfall in the district so far.
