The West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday amended West Bengal Land Reforms and Tenancy Tribunal (Amendment) Bill 2019 to enhance the tenure of its chairman, judicial and administrative members by three years.
While the office of the chairman of the tribunal was extended from 65 to 68 years, tenure of the judicial and administrative members from 62 to 65 years.
The decision was taken after it was found that the chairman and members of the tribunal hardly complete their two-year term in office in view of the time taken in procedural formalitites for selection.
This short tenure, vacant positions and frequent changes bring instability in the organisation and affect disposal of cases and delivery of justice through the Tribunal.
