WBSEDCL to install smart meters soon

WBSEDCL consumers in Salt Lake will soon have smart meters installed in their homes under the National Smart Grid Mission.
"We will be installing 5,275 smart meters in Salt Lake area of Kolkata under the National Smart Grid Mission pilot project," Chemtrols Industries managing director K Nandakumar said on the sidelines of BCCI organised seminar Bridging Automation & Society.
Chemtrols Industries is the executing company for the smartgrid project in West Bengal. National Smart Grid Mission has rolled out pilot smartgrid projects in 12 discoms across the country.
WBSEDCL sources confirmed that Salt Lake is the first area where pilot smart meter project is rolled out. The project has been delayed by six months due to unavailability of some equipment.

The smart meters will allow discoms real time metering and billing can be done without physical reading of the meter.
Beside, smart meters peak load management will also be rolled out as part of the smartgrid project, Nandakumar said.
