An outfit of women in Malayalam film industry today expressed concern over the delay in releasing the study report of a Kerala government appointed commission on gender discrimination in the industry.
The members of the "Women in Cinema Collective" submitted a representation in this regard to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, requesting his urgent intervention in the matter, the WCC said in its Facebook post.
The state government had in May last year appointed a commission headed by former high court judge K Hema to look into the problems faced by women in Malayalam film industry on the basis of a memorandum submitted by WCC.
It was for the first time that such a panel was set up to study the problems in the film industry. "We were sure that the study report could expose the problems of the industry and suggest solutions," the collective said.
But, even after six months of its formation, no report had been released so far, it said.
WCC, including actors, directors, script writers and singers, was launched last year to safeguard their rights and ensure gender justice after the abduction and molestation of a Malaylam actress in Kochi.
