Weather clears up in U'khand; several highways still blocked

The weather was clear at most places across Uttarakhand today with light to moderate rains occurring at isolated places even as several national highways blocked for a few days by debris from landslips could not be reopened for vehicular traffic.
Barring a few isolated places where light to moderate rains occurred, the weather was largely clear throughout Uttarakhand, the MeT department said.
Haldwani in Nainital district received the maximum rains of 35 mm followed by Munsyari in Pithoragarh district (18 mm), Kashipur in Udhamsingh Nagar district (14 mm) and Joshimath in Chamoli (13 mm), it said.
Similar weather conditions have been predicted for the next 24 hours with light to moderate rains likely at isolated places.

Meanwhile, Rishikesh Badrinath NH closed at Maithana and Patalganga in Chamoli district for the last five days could not be reopened, official sources here said.
The Rishikesh-Gangotri NH also continues to be blocked by debris at Nalupani in Uttarkashi district, they said, adding efforts are under way to repair them.

Compensation of Rs 120 crore has been distributed to those affected by floods in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said.
A meeting of District Magistrates of affected areas had been convened on August 29 to discuss identification of land to rehabilitate devastated villages, Bahuguna told reporters.
Uttarakhand government has received the final lists of people from various states, except Uttar Pradesh, who went missing in the mid-June calamity, and will soon sent compensation to their families, Bahuguna said.

"We have received the final lists of missing persons from all the states except Uttar Pradesh. I have spoken to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Governor B L Joshi asking them to furnish us with the final list of missing persons from their state soon," Bahuguna said.
