To educate and bring awareness among the public on liver related disease, an exclusive website was launched by Gem Hospital and Research Centre here, today.
Besides, a 24 hour help line to clarify on doubts about all liver related problems, including emergencies, was also launched, with hot line number 9600953999.
Inaugurating the website 'gemhpb. com' and hotline number, the city corporation Commissioner, Dr Vijay Karthikeyan said that with the advancement of technology, the public was able to know the details of any disease by a touch of finger.
The Centre chairman, Dr C Palanively said that Viral Hepatitis such as B and C, and alcohol are the predominant causes for failure of liver (cirrhosis), wherein early identification and treatment can prevent the damage of liver further.

If left untreated, liver transplant was the only option to save the patients, he said adding that recently obesity related fatty liver also led to cirrhosis.
Free testing of hepatitis B and C as well as free consultation regarding all liver diseases for the public was also held during the launch.
