The General Purposes Committee of the Assembly, headed by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, has given its in-principle approval to a proposal to constitute the committee, an official said on Tuesday.
The move comes after some Delhi MLAs including Rajesh Gupta, Som Dutt and Ajesh Yadav recently approached the Speaker to constitute a committee to look into grievances and issues related to the students and youth in the Assembly.

"If and when the House adopts the report of the Rules Committee, the Committee on Welfare of Students and Youth will come into existence," the official said.
The official claimed that this committee will be, perhaps, the first of its kind in the country.
