Three persons were seriously injured, while about seven locals sustained minor injury following the animal attack.
The angry villagers retaliated violently and chased the hordes of boars brandishing axe, lathis and spears. A wild boar fell prey with people hacking the animal to death, said Mahakalpada forest range officer, Bijoy Parida.
A case under provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 has been registered against unidentified persons who killed the animal, he said.
The outbreak of man-animal conflict has become pronounced in the villages near the sanctuary with estuarine crocodiles, wild boars and spotted deer often straying into places of human habitation.
