With the cases of power cable theft on the rise, Rajasthan Police has appointed "wind dragons" -- a dedicated force who will keep round-the-clock vigil in the border district of Jaisalmer -- to check the crime.
About 120 Home Guards, called "wind dragons", have been appointed in the area of Sujlone Energy Ltd, Jaisalmer SP Hemant Sharma said today.
They would work under the guidance and instructions of the office of the Jaisalmer SP. There are about 2,000 wind mills producing over 2,200 MW power in Jaisalmer district, he said.
There were about 140 cases of cable theft lodged with the police in 2013 as against 56 in 2012, the SP said, adding that 193 people were arrested in 2013, and cable worth Rs 90 lakh was recovered from them.
