"From the launch of forecasting centre, initially, the services would be available in Tamil Nadu and later be extended to entire country," National Institute of Wind Energy said in a statement.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Joint Secretary, Varsha Joshi at a function formally launched the wind power forecasting services.
The move to establish a wind forecasting centre comes in the back drop of unpredictable nature of wind leading to loss of electricity, the statement said.
Accordingly, a micro-pilot project was planned at Ayyanaruthu in Tamil Nadu and later extend the service to entire the state.
National Institute of Wind Energy, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy along with Spain-based Vortex Factoria de Calculs jointly carried out various initiatives to create India specific forecasting model to support the wind industry.
