Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today inaugurated the Winter Line Carnival in Mussorie and also announced author Ruskin Bond as its brand ambassador.
The carnival, which began today, will be held till December 30 and will witness the participation of singer Kailash Kher, veteran Bollywood actor Tom Alter, and some local performers.
Rawat said that one day in the event will be reserved for the participation of local artists, according to an official statement.
"There should be a team effort to make the carnival successful. This will spread the message that Uttarakhand is safe which in turn will boost the tourism activity," he said.
"The tourism industry was affected due to last year's devastating floods but with the help of government and local residents, we have been able to instill confidence in people that Uttarakhand is safe for tourists," the chief minister said.
A football competition will be organised on December 27-28, half marathon for men and women and a cross-country run will be held on December 29 as part of the carnival.
Development officer Alok Kumar Pandey had earlier said the entry tickets for the carnival have been divided into three categories. One ticket costs Rs 300, couple entry ticket is priced at Rs 500 and tickets for the entire duration of carnival will cost Rs 1500.
